Booming commercial zones highlight China's consumption growth potential

2021-2-16 12:06

Spring Festival, the most significant holiday to celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year, is considered as an annual peak period for China's social consumption. The week-long holiday was unexpectedly interrupted in 2020 by the sudden outbreak of COVID-19. However, this year, as strict epidemic prevention and control measures keep well for months, the commercial zones in China's major cities see a strong rebound of customers. China ranked as the world's largest online retail market for the eighth straight year in 2020, with online sales surging by 14.8 percent year on year, according to the Ministry of Commerce of China (MOC). China maintained its position as the world's second-largest consumer market last year, with sales of consumer goods reaching 39.2 trillion yuan (about 6.06 trillion U.S. dollars).
